Please Note: The below letter is part of a mailing to all Edmonds School District parent households. We anticipate most parents receiving the mailing beginning Saturday, Sept. 27. The contents of the mailer, in addition to the below letter, are posted online now and printed copies of the mailer will be available in schools beginning mid-day Monday, Sept. 29.

Dear Families,

We would like to share with you the plan we have put into place to address how school meals are provided to students and your role in that process. We thank you for taking the time to review the information inside. These changes start October 1, 2008.

Parent leaders, classroom and food service staff, students, and interested community members brought forward suggestions, and all contributed toward the development of the process outlined in the PDFs below.

It is important to share that Edmonds School District’s food service program is self-supporting, relying solely on federal and state reimbursements, as well as parent payments for meals to cover all its operating costs. No general fund dollars are used to subsidize the program.

The intent from the start was and continues to be how to best support our students’ needs while being fiscally responsible and meeting federal regulations and requirements. Again, this starts Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Contact information is provided inside. Please let us know if you have questions.

Queremos compartir con ustedes el plan que hemos puesto en práctica para informarles cómo las comidas escolares se proveen a los estudiantes, y su rol en este proceso. Les agradecemos por tomarse el tiempo en revisar la información que esta adentro. Estos cambios comienzan el 1 de Octubre del 2008.

Padres líderes, personal de clases y de servicios de comidas, estudiantes e interesados miembros de la comunidad brindaron sugerencias y todos contribuyeron hacia el desarrollo del proceso en detalle adentro.

Es importante compartir con ustedes que el programa del servicio de comidas del Distrito Escolar de Edmonds se mantiene a si mismo, apoyándose solamente en reembolsos federales y estatales, como así también en los pagos de los padres por las comidas para cubrir todos los gastos operarios. No se usan fondos generales de dólares para subsidiar el programa.

El intento desde el comienzo fue y continúa siendo cómo se puede apoyar mejor las necesidades de los estudiantes y a la vez ser fiscalmente responsable cumpliendo con regulaciones y requerimientos federales. Otra vez, esto se comienza el Miércoles 1 de Octubre del 2008. Encontrará información adentro sobre cómo contactarse. Por favor háganos saber si tiene preguntas.
