Timeline of Meetings

Most of our community and staff are aware that over the last five years we’ve been having ongoing discussions about the need to plan ahead for additional operational cost reductions. This need has been mainly driven by anticipated state funding shortfalls that are impacting Edmonds and all public school districts across the state. As part of the way we are addressing this situation, the School Board at its June 3, 2008 meeting approved the following for study and development:

The Board asked that the appropriate subcommittee of our Citizen Planning Committee (CPC) study in the fall of 2008 and develop plans for possible implementation for the 2009-2010 school year the items listed below. While school closure and program consolidation as a means of reducing overall costs is seriously being considered, the direction is to study and develop plans. It remains the Board's authority later next year to make any final determinations.

Areas for 2008-2009 Citizen's Planning Committee (CPC) study and development:

Boundaries and Enrollment Subcommittee:

Study and develop a detailed plan for consolidation of Woodway Elementary for 2009-2010 and present to the Board for final approval by Dec. 16, 2008. (Contact: Ellen Kahan, 425-431-7176)

Study and develop a detailed plan for consolidation of Terrace Park Middle School (7th & 8th grades) with Brier Terrace Middle School for 2009-2010 and present to the Board for final approval by Dec. 16, 2008. (Contact: Ken Limon, 425-431-7094)

Thank you for your awareness of these areas of study. A link to the timeline for this process is included on this page.
